>Hey Team Omo,
Not many people know but one of the most popular video games in the 90s were the King of Fighters series! I’m a huge fan (I even created the biggest KOF fan page on Facebook) and want people to know why this game beat the likes of Street Fighter 2 and other 2D Fighting games. Well initially the game was based on a collaboration of Art of Fighting, Ikari Warriors, Psyco Soldiers and Fetal Furry. Not to get into boring geeky perspectives about the game lets just get down to the reason its better: The originality and the storyline! KOF offered the similar way of game play as Street Fighter 2 and somewhat Mortal Kombat, but it get popularity because of the storyline and original characters. Now I’m about to share a story that is based on the KOF Orochi Saga and bare with me even non gamer fans will tend to like it. And vivid fans don’t worry the logo is the only thing I took out from the movie.
The tales and prophecies of Orochi goes beyond the game. Along time ago the world was dominated by an evil tyrant named Orochi. Possessing mystical powers and manpower, Orochi was a though evil to bring down. However, there were three clans that decided to stand up to this force; Kusanagi clan, Yata clan and Yasakani clan. The Kusanagi clan possessed the ability to manipulate and produce fire from their bodies, the Yata clan (whose women only posses the following power) had the ability to create mirages and since all the women who posses this ability were born with a twin sister they made a powerful force; they also had the ability to teleport. The Yasakani clan however, always lived in the Kusanagi clan’s shadow. After Orochi’s powers were sealed, Orochi’s dark surviving rebellion decided to make a deal with the Yasakani clan and give them similar yet stronger powers as the Kusanagis. The poses a strange violet flame that came as a gift but inorder to attain this ability the Yasakani’s had 3 courses; at childbirth the mother of the child that posses this ability dies, the user of this ability dies young and has a never ended lust for bloodshed when at a Blood Riot state. The blood riot state was a manipulation strategy that Orochi used from his magic to take control over any Yasakani if they were to betray him. The Yasakani’s were now named as Yagami’s and had been fighting against the Kusanagis for countless centuries.
The KOF is basically a tournament held by the high and mighty syndicates of a made believe town called South Town. In 1994 the tournament goes global and invites the best of the best to combat from around the world! The story focuses on the arrogant pyrokinetic highschooler named Kyo Kusanagi. He won a tournament in Japan to qualify for the international KOF tournament. The next two runner-ups became apart of his team to represent Japan. In Kyo’s personal life, his father who trained Kyo in the ancient arts of Kusanagi combat forbid him from entering that tournament based on reasons he chose not to disclose. His father however realized that a crime boss was holding the tournament mainly to get rid of any potential threats that might stop him in his evil plan of world domination. He decides to take on the evil himself but after a visit to the sponsor, the notorious Rugal Bernstien, Kyo’s father ends up missing; leading a determined Kyo to take part in the tournment. Classical avenge storyline. Kyo and his team went through various teams including the team led by the former and very popular champion Terry Bogard, Team Italy. In the final bout of the tournament Kyo is left to face Rugal and is eventually defeated. However, Kyo’s father is still left missing after the boat in which the final round was based on was destroyed.
The flamboyant hero returns in the next years tournament, held by an unknown sponsor, leading the same team of Benimaru Nakaido and Goro Daimon as partners. This year none of the teams represent countries. However, there is a new team that takes part and it is consisting of the returning Billy Kane (who has had a long feud with former champ Terry), Eiji Kisaragi and Kyo’s rival Iori Yagami. It is later found that Rugal had survived and was the sponsor of the team, he held this mainly to take revenge on Kyo for spoiling his plans. He has a team of his own consisting of his two sexy assistants Mature and Vice. Now as the tournament came to close Rugal declares that he has found the ability to manipulate Orochi’s powers in his body. This causes Iori to lose control and go into Blood Riot state and this causes him to nearly kill his teammates. Kyo, the golden boy hero that he is, stands up to Rugal and portrays his cockiness in the form of him boasting his past victory over Rugal. Rugal then introduces his opponent, Kyo’s father. Kyo is in shock at the turn of event, till the table is eventually turned. Rugal expected that Kyo wouldn’t battle his father, he was wrong, Kyo had no problem giving his dad a serious asskicking. Ultimately, Kyo’s dad is out of Rugal’s spell but Rugal over powers Kyo with his new found powers till Rugal himself couldn’t bare the powers in his body anymore and that results in him bursting into nothingness. Later it is shown that Iori is approached by the sexy Mature and Vice to form a team, he agrees on the account that they all are fucking crazy.
A tale from along time ago when Orochi was sealed showed a clan in the bloodline of Orochi that refused to fight an individual who is apart of the same bloodline shows up to their leaders doorstep while the clan head and his young daughter were having dinner, he asks for them to join forces and create an even stronger rebellion. The clan, peaceful as they were declined and the dark individual left with striking/threatening remarks and a grin on the clan’s leaders daughter. Days later the Ikari Warriors show up at that place with their eyepatch wearing leader Heidern to find the whole clan brutally murdered by the leaders daughter who was in a state quite similar to the Yagami’s Blood Riot state. Heidern confused at the happenings, decides to adopt the young girl and names her Leona. In 1996, Kyo and his arrogant ways lead him into an upset victory by another unknown fighter. Leona, grown up and hot! Is given permission to take her adoptive fathers place in the upcoming tournament. The KOF tournament is held by Chizuru Kagura (a descendant of the Yata clan) and the usual reoccurring teams show up except for the team of Rivals from last year, since Iori has a new sexier team. After Kyo beats Chizuru in the final round, an evil appear causing Leona and Iori to go on a Blood Riot and harming their teams, his name Goenitz. He claims to be a servant of Orochi and thus can control Orochi’s powers. He is also the same individual that had showed up on Leona’s doorsteps years ago and beat Kyo prior to this tournament. Kyo now surprizing him with his new technique becomes a valuable opponent to him till he is beaten down by Iori who is in control of Goenitz. However, Chizuru and Kyo keep up a insignificant fight till Iori does something his forefathers would never imagine, he breaks out of the Blood Riot state and help the two hero’s defeat Goenitz and seal Orochi’s powers once again. Meanwhile Leona’s two big powerhouses of teammates, Ralf Jones and Clark Steel are able to stop Leona from doing much damage but are left in a fucked up condition and Leona is left without a single scratch on her fine body. However, Mature and Vice suffered a different fate, they were brutally killed when Iori was at a Blood Riot state destroying everything in his path including them till he found Kyo.
In the year 1997, the tale of Orochi came to an end, when the heroes Kyo, Benimaru and Daimon formed a team once again to win the tournament. It featured a new face team consisting of Iori’s rival rockband; yes! Iori has a band! Didn’t he look like a emo/goth rocker?! The new face team comprises of Chris (a lil kid with killer dance moves) similar but way older and way stronger is Yoshiro (a powerhouse brawler) and the sexy Shermie. Another new significant addition was the annoying Shingo; Kyo’s groupie at first later turned prodigy. The tournament takes place like the previous one sponsored by Chizuru. However then the hero team meets the new faces in the final round. Hard fought match but turns scary later, turns out they all are in the Orochi bloodline and have some unoriginal abilities when their potential is unlocked. In Blood Riot state, Shermie is shows to use powers similar to the electric bolts possessed by the Faggot of the year Benimaru. Yoshiro has strength similar to Daimon and Chris, you guessed it, had Kyo Kusanagi’s trademark Serpent Wave at his disposal but with the violet flames that are also possessed by Iori. A hard fought match ends but the root of all evil was yet to come. Chris gets possessed and transforms into Orochi himself! Orochi then fights of Kyo’s team easily wiping them out, duh! The whole joint starts to collapse cause of Orochi’s tremendous powers. Kyo is battered and bruised but Orochi says he is a man of his word and says I promised the Yagami clan the satisfaction of victory over their rivals and then appears in Blood Riot state, none other than Iori Yagami. A battered Kyo then stands up with his arrogance at its usual place and takes on the blood hungry Iori. Chizuru also steps in but is brutally taken out aswell. Kyo is then left beaten to a pulp and Orochi comes in and pics Kyo up by the head and asking Yagami to finish him off. Yagami runs towards them and goes in for the kill like a maniac… Iori does what he had done before took control over the uncontrollable state and holds Orochi with his Blood Riot state and commands Kyo to finish him off. Kyo knowing about the conditions they are in (the collapsing structure) powers up for his Serpent Wave, Chizuru screaming and begging them to save themselves while they have the little probability to get out; Chizuru can leave using her teleportation powers and save herself. She does, Kyo and Iori kill the threat once and for all. The heroes look at each other with new found respect and judging by the circumstances, it was impossible for them to survive, the two then bring out their flames from their hands and experience what seemed as their ultimate end. Bringing the Orochi sage to an end.
Obviously the heroes aren’t dead, due to alot of fan’s negative responses Iori and Kyo were also apart of all the future games so far gradually gaining the spotlight again. Well thats another dose of my geeky side team Omo, till next time…
